1895

Built in 1895, the one-room schoolhouse was initially built as a grammar school for Ben Lomond area. Later in 1934, due to an influx of students and needing more space, Sequoia School (constructed in 1905) which had been located on China Grade, was dismantled and reassembled on the back of Alba Schoolhouse.
More recently, the building has served as a community center for the local Ben Lomond residents. It was the last remaining one-room schoolhouse in the county still in its original location and configuration.
In August 2020, Alba Schoolhouse and the reassembled Sequoia School were both destroyed by the CZU Lightning Complex Fire. The building which had stood for over 125 years was consumed by fire, a devastating loss to the community.
In 2022, a dedicated group of community members came together to advocate for rebuilding the school house and formed a nonprofit, Friends of the Alba Schoolhouse to encourage planning and donations.
